University of Cambridge: Pembroke Visit
This half term 10 of our more able Year 9 students had the opportunity to visit the University of Cambridge, Pembroke College. The day involved informative presentations regarding Higher Education including the application process, course requirements and financial aspects. Students also had a guided tour of Pembroke College and had the opportunity to find out more about student life at the university. In the afternoon, students had the opportunity to experience a lecture delivered by a leading Professor from the genetics faculty. Our year 10 students found the visit very informative and insightful and learned about the importance of studying the correct subject combinations at A level to allow for progression onto various BSc and BA degrees.
‘I learnt what is required to get into a top university and what courses they have on offer. The tour in particular was great because we got the opportunity to see the amazing educational facilities.’ MYA 9RUM
‘The visit was interesting and the student ambassador was really informative. It made me realise that it is important to balance the academic work with social and extracurricular activities, such as being part of societies to develop a range of skills and meet other university students outside your course.’ AAMINA 9MER
‘I loved learning about the history of the university and going on the guided tour.’ JEVIN 9BEM
‘The lecture was great as we got to learn about aspects of science that we do not learn about at school. It was extremely interesting to hear how processes interlink. Also it was reassuring to hear that students do make friends quickly as everyone has the same aspirations and similar interests.’ VRAJ 9MER and WATHEEQ 9BEM
