Divisions & Charities
All students and staff are placed in one of the five divisions – Belvoir, Bosworth, Charnwood, Harborough and Melton – when they start life at Rushey Mead Academy. The Divisions play an important part in school life in 2 major ways – charity work and competitions.
A large part of the Divisions work involves increasing student awareness of local, national and international charitable causes. Staff and students work together through the Divisions to raise awareness and money for a number of charitable causes. Beneficiaries in recent years have included the British Red Cross, Oxfam, Teenage Cancer Trust, Comic Relief, Sport Relief, Rushey Mead Foundation, Rainbows and LOROS.
The Division system also aims to promote healthy competition and Inter-Division rivalry through a number of competitions across various areas of the curriculum e.g. sport, music, dance and cooking. The new ideas of students and staff alike are actively encouraged so that new competitions are frequently introduced. At the same time popular competitions have become a regular part of the school calendar.
